Obituary

William Bart Gainey, 58, of Millen, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026 after an extended illness.

Bart was born June 20, 1968 to Bill and Wilma Gainey. He spent his childhood enjoying fishing, attempting to water ski, and spending time with his family.

In 1987, he married the love of his life, Julie, and they soon welcomed their 3 girls; Hope, Jordan, & Anna. Bart's world revolved around his family and his career as a paramedic. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to helping others, often answering the call when people were experiencing the most frightening moments of their lives. His dedication to serving others was recognized when he received the EMS Service Award in 1998 and was named Paramedic of the Year in 2005.

Bart was a member at Elam Baptist Church as a child and began attending church at Oak Hill Baptist after marriage. He loved his church family and was an active member as long as his health allowed. He enjoyed camping and joking around with his family.

While his time with us may have ended, the impact of his life will continue through the people he helped, the memories he created, and the love he leaves behind.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Julie Jenkins Gainey, and a grandson, Asa Tamblyn.

Bart is survived by his daughters; Hope (David) Tamblyn of Twin City, Jordan (Tom) Wooten of Tacoma, Washington, and Anna (Brad) Dryer of Millen; his parents, Bill and Wilma Gainey of Millen; siblings, Monica (John Paul) Johnson, Brett (Jennifer) Gainey, and Rhonda (Jason) Barnes. He was affectionately known as "Ga-Daddy" to his grandchildren: Kendall & Josiah Tamblyn, Miya, Kaylyn, Hadley, and Blythe Wooten, & Brie and Banks Dryer; great-grandson, Kyzer Wooten, along with numerous nephews, nieces & cousins.

Honorary pallbearers are past EMS coworkers.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Joshua Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends and family for visitation one hour prior to the service.
