Obituary

Reginald Wayne Fields, 80, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 15, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born and raised in Jenkins County to the late R. H. Fields Sr. and Alma Lane Fields.

Wayne made helping people his life's mission as he was an Emergency Medical Technician in Jenkins County for 42 years in addition to faithfully working in various roles in Jenkins County Hospital for 36 years.

He was a member of Elam Baptist Church.  Wayne never met a stranger.  He was known by many as "Papa Wayne" and would be willing to give his shirt off his back for those around him.  He loved Elvis Presley, looking for treasures at the pawn shop, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Fields Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Johnson Fields; daughter, Melissa Fields Hill (Randy); two sons, Steven DeWayne Fields (Heather) and Christopher Shane Fields (Paula); two sisters, Ruth F. Johnson (James) and Norma F. Herndon (Marvin); sister-in-law, Ellen M. Fields and six grandchildren.

The family would like to express our thanks to Regency Southern Hospice and special care giver, Kim Young, known to Wayne as "Mama Kim".

Funeral services will be held at Elam Baptist Church on Monday, February 17, 2025.  Visitation will be at 10:00 AM and the service will be at 11:00 AM. Burial will be immediately following the service at Elam Cemetery.  The Reverend Jody Bryant and Reverend Tim Fields will officiate.

Active pallbearers will be Charley Waters, Chad Waters, Eason Waters, Lane Waters, Jason Fields, Bob Fields, Tim Fields and Brian Fields.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Burke, Steve Burke, Joe Sasser, Darrell Clifton, Bobby Dailey and members of the Jenkins County EMS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Elam Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5199 Elam Rd., Millen, Ga  30442.
