Hephzibah
Mr. Thomas Oliver, US Army Chief Warrant Officer, age 81, beloved husband of Marva Emily Oliver entered into rest on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Denton, TX.
Graveside services with full military honors will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Millen Cemetery, Millen, GA.
Tom and Marva had been married for 58 years. Tom met Marva in the Republic of Panama and they were married on December 31, 1965. He served in the Army for 26 years and retired in April 1986 and began work at the Fort Gordon support project for the next 30 years. He was assigned to Vietnam for two tours, serving with the Data Service Center and 27th Combat Engineers.
He was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, with four awards, Driver Badge, Sharp Shooter Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Meritorious Service Medal with second Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with fourth Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal and Non Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon.
Tom was always interested in helping others and putting himself last. While working at Fort Gordon providing service to both military and the civilian force he strived to provide the best service support because he would always put himself in a reversal role as the person receiving the services and what was expected of him. His saying always no matter what the challenge, it was "No Hill for a Climber".
Tom is survived by his wife, Marva, the love of his life; his children, Thomas J. Oliver, Manassas VA, John F. Oliver, Dallas, TX and daughter, Stacy Mobley of Waynesboro, GA. In addition are ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren to whom Tom's love was endless; His grandchildren were so loved by him and very special; he also has a brother, Charles Oliver (Patricia) of Millen.
