Mrs. Rowena Gay Cowart, 96, went to be with her Lord on October 17, 2011.

She was born on January 13, 1915 at her home place in Thrift Community. She worked at Thomson Company, Jockey, and Expanded Foods and Nutrition. She was a member of Elam Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

Her children are Sue (Bill) Green, Cumming, GA, Melinda Overstreet, Augusta, GA, her grandchildren are Rex (Kim) Bailey, Chris Overstreet, John Overstreet, and the late Teri Gay Johnston, and her great-grandchildren are Nicholas and Luke Bailey, Emma and Caroline Johnston, and Kirsten Overstreet.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John I. Cowart; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Martin Gay, her brothers and sisters: Alsalum, Ausie, Matthew, M. Daniel Loyd, Charlie Horris, Outler Johnson, Lawton Thomas, Larris Larry, Fannie, Remer Delean, Margaret Gay, Chatlon Ulmane, Isabelle Daniel Mommon, Carry Estelle, Robers L. Gambrel, Charles Bateman, and Ralph Gay.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Alzada Branch, Sherri Bargeron, and Nicole Herrington for their devoted care.

Funeral service will be at Elam Baptist Church on Saturday, October 22, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Maurice Crowder and Reverend Kevin Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Elam cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews Jerry Gay, Charles Gay, Raymond Blackburn, Randy Blackburn, Franklin Johnson, Joe Sid Cowart, John Cowart, Thomas Black, Lamar Black, and Roger Black.

Visitation will be 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.
