Robert "Bob" Carlton Lane passed away in the early morning on July 19, 2024 after a long battle with vascular dementia. Born July 29, 1943 in Jenkins County to O. C. "Bub" and Soujette Lane, he was raised in Emmalane and graduated from Jenkins County High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Jerri Lykins Lane, and they had two daughters, Adener Lynn and Julie Ann.  He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and "Papa" to his grand and great-grandchildren.

Robert served in the U. S. Army, defending the country he loved for twenty years. While serving his country, he completed two tours in Vietnam as a Green Beret and successfully earned a bachelors and masters degrees. He retired from the military in 1981. After retirement from the Army, Robert started a second career with the U. S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, eventually retiring as the Director of Human Resources for Georgia's southeast region after 21 years.

He loved to travel with his wife and good friends, Butch and Ginger Kieffer.  He became a tour director for Excursions Unlimited to share his love of travel with others for ten years.

Robert was always a hard worker, but balanced his life with lots of fun. He enjoyed various sports over the years and loved watching birds and plants grow.

Family was always first for him.  He ensured all of his children and grandchildren were taken care of, providing many of their needs and wants. He loved his family and would do absolutely anything to help anyone. He never met a stranger, chatting with anyone anywhere he went. Robert was intelligent, hardworking, a fixer of all things, and a jokester even in his final days!

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, O. C. "Bub" and Soujette Lane; brothers Jerome Lane, O.C. Jr. "Toby" Lane, Eugene "Gene" Lane and Ben Lane; sisters, Arlene Lane Hartley and Martha Lane Oglesby Gregory.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jerri Gail Lykins Lane, his two daughters, Adener Lynn Lane McKim and Julie Ann Lane Fallin; five grandchildren, Megan Edenfield (Brenton), Stephanie Wiseman (Wayne), Kylan McKim, Dillon McKim, and Amanda Fallin and three great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Jack and Watson Wiseman.

The family would like to thank his caregiver, Bea Tullis and Compassus Hospice for their support and care during this time.

There will be a private graveside service for immediate family in Millen, Georgia.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Nine Line Foundation for Veteran's Village, Savannah, Georgia or the Alzheimer's Association in his memory.
