Robert Gray "Bobby" Dwelle, Sr., age 90, went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, May 8, 2014 in Millen, GA.
A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, his love for the Lord was evident in the life he lived each day.

A native of Millen, GA, he was born July 20, 1923, to the late Eugene Bates and Jennie Joyner Dwelle. This area has been home to the Dwelle and Gray families and their descendants since 1835.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Elsie McCord Dwelle, infant twin grandchildren, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth (King) Rocker and a son, Robert G. "Bob" Dwelle Jr.; grandchildren, Kathryn (Taylor) Sturkie and Matthew (Amy) Rocker; a sister, Marian D. Reeves of Millen; a brother, Dr. Milton (Irene) Dwelle of Douglasville; a sister-in-law, Rosalie C. Dwelle of Millen; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dwelle was in the general insurance business all of his adult life and was founder and owner of Dwelle Insurance Agency.
He was a member of the Millen Baptist Church where he had been a Sunday School teacher and Chairman of the Board of Deacons.
He had served as president of the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce, Millen Lions Club, and the Millen Merchants Association.

He had also served on the Millen City Council, and chairman of the Jenkins County Development Authority, an office he held for 45 years.
During these years he founded and developed the Jenkins County Industrial Park. He served as a messenger in the Georgia State Senate, an aide to Lieutenant Governor Peter Zach Geer, and Chief Aide to three consecutive Speakers of the House of Representatives, George L. Smith, Thomas B. Murphy and Terry Coleman.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12th at 2:00 pm at Millen Baptist Church with Dr. Cliff Morris and Revs. David Wheeler and Mike Dann officiating. Interment will follow in the Millen Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Mike Reeves, Hoke Reeves, Pete Mills, Johnny Neal, Phil Cowart, Lloyd Moses, Roy Cheney, and Lauren McDonald.

Honorary Pallbearers will be past and present members of the Georgia General assembly and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions if so desired may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home and The Children's Hospital of the Medical College of Georgia, 1446 Harper St., Augusta, GA 30912.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. King Rocker, 901 Pinetree Drive, Millen, Ga.

Now as he praises the Lord in Heaven, his legacy here will remain with all those who knew and loved him.
