Richard Byron McNeely Sr. of Millen, Georgia, born on December 15, 1942, died on April 6, 2015 surrounded by his beloved family.
Born in Jenkins County's Mulkey Hospital and raised in Jenkins County by his loving parents, Ruth and Ollie Lane. Richard was raised to love God, family, and Lane Tractor Company, where he was owner and operator from a young age. He was a member of Millen Baptist Church and Boch Sunday School Class.
His family was his greatest joy. Nothing pleased him more than preparing wonderful meals for his loved ones. Like most Grandfathers, "Pa" was adored by his boys and his princess, and this love was reciprocated. He enjoyed every sporting event, church program, dance recital, and his special Thursdays with them. His life was dedicated to helping his customers at Lane Tractor Company find just what they needed. He also served his community as a City Councilman and his country in the Air National Guard. He will be terribly missed but he is now at peace with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ollie and Ruth Oglesby Lane and James Byron McNeely, a World War II Purple Heart recipient.
Surviving are, his wife, Sandra Daughtry McNeely: his daughters Staci Kennedy and her husband Everett, of Statesboro; Summer McNeely of Statesboro; his son Richard "Rick" Byron McNeely Jr. of Millen, his grandchildren, Greyson, Harrison, and Alexandra Kennedy of Statesboro.
The funeral service will be held at 3 pm Wednesday, at Millen Baptist Church with visitation in the social hall two hours prior to the service. Reverend David A. Wheeler and Dr. Maurice Crowder will officiate and burial will follow in the Millen Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be: Donnie McNeely, Larry McDaniel, Jesse Johnson, Brian Lane, C.H. McTeer Jr., Quinney Lane Sr., Terry Williams, Kenny Williams, and Earl Burke. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Boch Sunday School Class.
