Obituary

Mike Reese passed away in his sleep, at home with his family on Monday, February 25, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Katherine Barefield Reese, and his brother, Raymond Reese.

Survivors are his wife, Janice, a son, Hudson (Hud) Reese, and granddaughter, Chansley Reese, of Millen, sisters, Beth Carscallen, Atlanta, and Becky (Don) Johnson, Statesboro, a niece, Joelle Miller, Vidalia, and nephew, Perry (Joyce) James, Metter.

Mike was a 1968 graduate of Jenkins County High School (JCHS), and of Georgia Southern College in 1972. He continued the family business, Millen Carpet Shop until 1992, when he accepted a position as an insurance agent with Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance. After his retirement from Farm Bureau, he worked at Rocker Supply until recently. He also served on the Jenkins County Board of Education for 13 years before his recent retirement.

Mike enjoyed being with family, especially summer traveling with his family; trips to the Grand Canyon, New York City, Las Vegas, New Orleans, San Francisco, Bahamas, Disney World, Memphis, and many trips to the mountains. He especially enjoyed St. Simons because that was our granddaughter's favorite since she was very young. It became a yearly tradition for all of us.

Friends were important to him. We enjoyed trips to ball games, boat trips on the Ogeechee, Nascar races, Jimmy Buffett concerts, and just hanging out together. Most of our friends have been our friends since Kindergarten.

Mike enjoyed writing. He wrote a column for The Millen News for several years, as well as The Southland Magazine. He received comments, questions, and laughs about many of his columns. The column that received more conversation and laughter than most, referenced a police officer in Rocky Ford.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 2:00 P. M. at the Millen Cemetery with the Reverend Mike Dann officiating. Visitation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
