Mary Sue Durden Newton, age 83, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Medical University Hospital in Charleston, SC.

She was born in Emanuel County, was a retired owner of The Vanity Box ladies clothing store which she ran for over 30 years, and was an active member of Elam Baptist Church.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday, at Elam Baptist Church with Rev. Jody Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in the Elam Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.

Survivors include her son, Dewey Newton, II (Laura) of Statesboro; 3 daughters, Dr. Sandra Freedman (Murray) of Augusta, Marsha Newton-Graham of Charlotte, NC, and Brenda Newton Hodgin (Jay) of Thompson; a sister, Billie Greco (Al) of Tampa, FL; 7 grandchildren, Scott Hodgin (Mary Beth), Allen Freedman (Kathryn), Stacy White (Perry), Will Graham (Heather), Kate Graham, Anna Newton, and Abby Newton and 10 great grandchildren.

Active Pallbearers will be Howdy McTeer, Hud McTeer, Britt Claxton, Nick Johnson, David Adams, Horace Weathersby, and Jaye Lee.
