Obituary

Martha Harvill Wilson, age 90, of Millen, Georgia passed away peacefully on August12, 2024.

Martha Sue's life was defined by her love for the Lord Jesus Christ and her devotion to her family.  She served her church faithfully and shared the love of Jesus with everyone she met. She raised three generations of children in her family, teaching them to love the Lord.

Born in Walton County, Georgia, she spend her early childhood in Walton and Rockdale counties.  Martha Sue moved to Millen, Georgia with her family as a teenager and made Millen her home for the rest of her life.  In 1954, she married William M. Wilson, Jr. They made Christ the center of their life and enjoyed serving the Lord together.

She was a graduate of Millen High School.  She retired from the Jenkins County Department of Family and Children Services.  She enjoyed horticulture and was a founding member of the Green Thumb Garden Club.

Martha was a faithful and active member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities, until the time of her death.  Martha Sue had a zeal and devotion for mission work.  One of her greatest joys was serving two terms as a trustee of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.

Martha Sue was preceded in death by her husband, William Wilson. Jr., her sister Rebecca H. Becton, her brother Anthony E. Harvill and her parents, Richard E. Harvill, and Lamar Durden Wilson.

She is survived by her children, Suzanne W. Waters (Andy), William "Jet" Wilson, III (Laurie), and John Richard "Dick" Wilson; grandchildren, Julie Peel (Jamie), Megan W. Simmons (Heath), Rev. Dallas Wilson (Jenna), Ashton Sherrod (LeVonte) and Ellis Sherrod.  She is also survived by her seven precious great grandchildren who were the sunshine of her life.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m.at Oak Hill Baptist Church, Millen, Georgia with Rev. Dallas Wilson and Rev. Joshua Johnson officiating.    Visitation with the family will be held in the church sanctuary one hour prior to the service.   Interment in the church cemetery will follow the service.

Active Pallbearers will be: Ellis Sherrod, Dean Dailey, Jerry Dailey, Jerry Jenkins, David Gay and Dennis Small.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank The Lodge at Bethany for the loving, caring community they provided for Martha Sue, in recent years.  She loved her "Lodge Family".
