Marie C. Busby, 96 passed away peacefully on November 4, 2021 at home due to natural causes. She was truly one of a kind and led an extraordinary and eventful life.

Marie was born 11/6/1925 in Bovill, ID to Clara Marie and Ralph Wade Cameron. She had 2 younger brothers, Dale and Wade.  She grew up in rural Idaho, her dad teaching her to fish for trout and salmon in the many creeks and rivers. He instilled in her a passion for fishing that lasted her whole life.  At 16 she earned her pilots license to fly. Marie lifeguarded on the Snake River in Lewiston, ID as a young girl and was an excellent swimmer.

Marie moved to the east coast in her young adult life. She was a real estate agent in the Washington D.C. area when she met the love of her life, Professional Ballplayer James Franklin "Jim" Busby. She and Jim built a life together and were married 43½ years until he died July 8, 1996.

They spent 30 years in Florida where they raised four children together in Yalaha, Florida. When her best friend Carol Whitt died at a young age, she "mothered" her children too. The Busbys owned an orange grove business and Marie continued a successful real estate career. They fished, shrimped and scalloped all over Florida and loved going to the Keys during lobster season.  Jim taught her to hunt and before long she could outshoot and outhunt anyone. They hunted over 25 years at Ft. Stewart, GA with a group of friends --the Whitts, Rolands and Olsons and in Allendale, SC with Dave and Flo Davis.  Marie had a wicked sense of humor and truly loved and cherished their friendships. She was a loyal friend.

Jim and Marie retired and moved to Jenkins County GA in 1988. They both loved to hunt deer and turkey on their property.  They grew and showed roses and lilies. Marie was a member of the Millen Rose Society, The Augusta Rose Society, Millen Garden Club, the Savannah Hemerocallis (Lilly) Society, a Life Member of Big Buckhead Hunting Club and a member of Millen UMC.  She was as comfortable in her camouflage as she was all dressed up at garden club, but one thing for sure, she always had her lipstick on and her nails painted.

Marie immersed herself fully in whatever she attempted—there was no halfway. She could quote the Major League Baseball rule book with the ease of an umpire, learned everything about growing and showing roses and was known to order dump trucks of mulch and manure for her 200 rose bushes. She loved to cook for others and could prepare casual or formal dinners for any number of guests and make anyone feel welcome in her home. We commend her for a well lived life and are enriched for having had her in our lives. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Marie was predeceased by her parents and husband, her sons Robert Everett Meyers Jr., James C. Busby and brother and sister-in-law, Dale O. and Helen G. Cameron and toddler brother Wade.

Marie is survived by daughter Victoria Murphy and son-in-law John O'Kelley, daughter Dale B. Wagner and son-in-law John Wagner and daughter-in-law Kristin Busby and her "kids" John F. Whitt and Gayle Whitt Konnerth and her best friend Betty Black.

Marie had 8 grandchildren: Scott Murphy and wife Lauren (CA), Meghan M. Murphey (FL), Jamie L. Busby (FL), James H. Busby (GA), Cameron Busby (GA), Carson Busby (GA), J. Austin Wagner (GA), and J. Tyler Wagner (FL). Three great-grandchildren:  Dillon Murphy (CA), Owen Murphy (CA), and Chloe M. Murphy (FL).  She is also survived by a niece and nephews: Terri Cameron (WA), Jimmy Cameron (WA), James "Gary" Harris (TX).

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Millen United Methodist Church, 413 N. Gray St., Millen GA 30442 on Saturday, November 13, 2021.
