Luther Bateman Welden III, 70, entered into eternal rest at his home on February 12, 2024 after an extended illness.

Luther was a retired correctional officer for the state of New Jersey.  "Pop" as he was affectionately known by his family was the easiest soul to get along with. He enjoyed fishing, collecting guns, reloading ammunition, playing cards, golfing, and spending time with his many clubs and organizations. He was a Baptist and a member of West Millen Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He was also a member of many organizations including the Masonic Lodge, Sons of the Confederacy, Friends of Magnolia, and the Mens Sunday school class.

Pop's pride and joy were his grandchildren who he enjoyed spending endless amounts of time with. From golf cart rides for ice cream, dance recitals, and all the many functions his grandchildren are involved in.

Luther is survived by his wife of 37 years, Denise Welden; sons Luther Bateman Welden IV (Tammy) of Heislerville NJ, Dave (Beth) Welden of Millen Ga, Nicole Welden also of Millen; and his grandchildren Scott, Donovyn (Yonnie), Austin, Wyatt, Annora, Duncan, Eli Welden,  Zoey Oglesby; and great grandchildren Alicemina, and Sarabella Welden. He is also survived by his siblings: Dorothy (George) Guizio of Somerspoint NJ, Grace (Jenny) Ross of Tennessee, Sam (Jennifer) Welden of Ceiderville NJ.

Luther is preceded in death by his father Luther Bateman Welden Jr., his mother Dorothy Welden, brother David Welden, and his granddaughter Vivian Rose Welden.

Memorial service will be held Friday February 16 at West Millen Baptist Church at 2 pm with Rev. Andy Allen officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Shriners Children Hospital.
