Louis (LOU) was born on May 4, 1930. His birthplace was in Welland, Ontario Canada near the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Lou had a deep admiration for this place as it was a treasure in his early and adult life memories shared with his family.

Lou was preceded in death by his brother Edward Mateka (Shirley) of Canada and his parents Louis Mateka II and Elizabeth Miho Mateka originally from Hungary.

Lou gained his love of baseball as a young adult. The 1945-1949 Welland Blue Bird Champions inducted Lou into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. Lou was also proud of his brothers as professional hockey players. The Toronto Sports Hall of Fame inducted his brothers into the hockey Hall of Fame. This is where he grew to love the art of athletics and sportsmanship.

Lou was honored for his 23 years of service. He retired as a Master Sergeant Intelligence Analyst in the US ARMY. He was proud of his travels throughout Europe, Asia and America in Austria, Hungary, Korea, Two tours in Vietnam, Germany, and Hawaii. He was pleased with his second career collaborating with Veterans at Hospital Services as an Administrative Clerk in possessions for 15 years. He was proud of his achievements and his family's education. He received a master's in business administration after retiring from the army. Crossword puzzles, comics, newsworthy items, poetry, literature, classical music, and yardwork became his historical daily rituals.

Outstanding friends and neighbors cherished Lou where he lived. He was a loyal neighbor always willing to lend a helping hand. His love towards his family was unapparelled using a sense of humor to share his appreciation and love. He cherished every moment of opportunity to guide his family and friends to make each self-best better in his own superior way.

Graveside Services with full military honors at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 29, at Green Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation following the service at the cemetery.

Lou's survivors are his wife Becky Mateka and children Louis Mateka III, Natalie Ann Campbell, Stevan John Mateka and Melissa Canady (Kenneth) of Augusta Georgia, Carla Blackburn (Gray) of Keysville, Georgia, and Carroll Edward Burke of Augusta Georgia.

His brother Rudy Mateka of Texas, Sarah, and Peter Mateka of California.

His grandchildren Martha Hopkins (Elijah) of Waynesboro Georgia and Hunter Blackburn of Keysville Georgia, Leah Campbell, Brighton Canady, Chandler Canady (Naomi) of Augusta Georgia and Baker Campbell of Atlanta, Georgia, and Claire Heiman (Robert) of North Carolina.

Great grandchildren Isaiah Davis, Tripp Maloney of Augusta Georgia, Ivy, Gray and Eden Hopkins of Waynesboro Georgia, Ann Marie, David, Joseph, Caleb, Sophia, and Michael Heiman of North Carolina.

His all-embracing Brinson family in-laws, Arthur Brinson (Mary), Freddie Brinson, Wayne Brinson (Diane), Roger Brinson, Betty Ann Alexander, Judy Brinson Morris, Donna Saxon (James Ellis), Linda Graham (James) of Statesboro, Georgia, Terry Brinson (Jayne) of Waynesboro Georgia. The late Brinson in-laws Janette Dickey (Ernest), Carolyn Hargrove (Les) of Millen Georgia, Robert Brinson of Atlanta Georgia. In addition, his niece Cynthia Dickey Saxon.
