Lester Earl
Hendrix
Mar 5, 1938 — May 18, 2026
Millen
Lester (Earl) Hendrix, 88, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. A decorated military veteran and dedicated public servant, he leaves behind a legacy of honor, discipline, and profound devotion to his wife.
Born March 5, 1938 in Savannah, GA, Earl joined the Marine Corps at age 17, serving honorably from 1956 to 1959. In 1959, he joined the Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1976. His distinguished career included a 12 year tour in Germany and a one year tour during the Vietnam War. Following his military retirement, he worked for the Civil Service at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah from 1979 to 2000.
While stationed in Germany, Earl met Christa, the love of his life. They married on June 21, 1963 and shared 63 beautiful years together, building a life grounded in deep love and true partnership. Earl was also a man of faith who regularly attended Oak Hill Baptist Church of Millen, Georgia.
Beyond his work and service, Earl had a passion to travel, always eager for the next adventure, especially when that adventure included seafood—a good bucket of steamed oysters.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Christa; his four children, Fred Hendrix (Paige), Janet Kelly (Brian), Earl Hendrix, Jr. (Debbie), and Tricia Werry (Art); his eight grandchildren, Brandy, Heather, Brittany, Justin, Sean, Ryan, Zachary, and Hannah; and several great-grandchildren.
Earl will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 22, 2026 at Oak Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Joshua Johnson officiating. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 pm until the time of service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Oak Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 3233 Oak Hill Church Rd., Millen, GA 30442.
