Obituary

Leroy Clayton, of Millen, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 1, 2026.  Leroy was born August 8, 1935 in Millen, Georgia, the son of Leroy Clayton, Sr. and Muriel Lewis Clayton. In 1954, Leroy graduated from Jenkins County High School, joined the Marine Corps and married Anne Wasden, his high school sweetheart. During his tour of duty he served on the Marine Corps Drill team in Washington, D. C. and was also chosen to sing in a chorus made up of three servicemen from each branch of service for Congress. He also served as a guard at the Arlington National Cemetery and was honorably discharged after three years. The couple returned to Millen and Leroy attended Georgia Southern University for one year before deciding to become a barber and completed his training at Cannon Barber College in Savannah, Georgia. He was a barber for 50 years and owned Clayton's Cleaners for 15 years.

Leroy and Anne played and sang for many weddings, funerals, revivals and specials in many churches in several counties. He was interim music director at Millen Baptist Church for seven years, music director at Oak Hill Baptist Church for two years and music director at Grace Community Church for one year. The couple moved to Clarkesville, Georgia where they lived for six years. While in Clarkesville, Leroy owned a barber business and also started a country and blue grass band that performed at Tallulah Falls on weekends. After returning to Millen, Leroy started a country and gospel music show at Perkins Depot for eight years and continued his barber business from his home by appointment.

Leroy was married for 70 years to his loving wife Anne until the Lord called her home on September 15, 2024.  Survivors include two daughters, Tamara (Roberto) Alicea of Augusta and Connie Baker of Millen; one son, Roy Clayton of Millen; four grandchildren, Abigail Clayton, Walker Clayton, Justin Myers and Michael Youngblood and three great-grandchildren, Kaylah, Myleah and Rikayah Youngblood.
