Larry Ray Wentzel Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, passed away peacefully at home Sunday May 5, 2024 surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer. He was 57. He was born September 3, 1966. Larry fought a courageous battle against cancer, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him for his strength and resilience.

Larry was a man of many roads, both literal and figurative. For decades, he traveled the roads hauling logs. A career that undoubtedly fed his adventurous spirit and gained him many, many friends along the way. Earning him the handle "Lil Rebel." An avid outdoorsman, Larry found solace and joy in hunting. He was known for his adventurous spirit and his love for sharing his passion with others. He established the Blundale Church Hunting Club, which will continue to honor him and his love of hunting. Even though he was serious about his hunting, his stories were always filled with humor and passion. Larry was a man of strong character. Above all else, Larry cherished his family. He was a devoted father to his children, Chris (Carmon), Patrick (Michaela), Tyler (Gabby), and Kaylee (Eddie), and a source of endless love and support for his grandchildren: Pookie, Logan, Levi, Emma, Rooster, Beau, Oakley, Summer, Samuel, Hudson, and Dakota. Larry's heart extended beyond his biological family. He welcomed many others into his life that he treated like his own children, showering them with love and guidance. He embraced their children as his grandchildren, and extended that same warmth to his "extra adopted grandkids." Larry was a proud member of the Masonic Order, exemplifying the organization's ideals of brotherhood and charity. He was a very proud member of the Ridgeway Lodge #104 in Garfield, Georgia. Larry's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, friends, and sister, Barbara (Steve) Weddon, his mother, Patricia Thurston, and his father, John Thurston. His passing also leaves a void in the hearts of his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his many trucking friends. He was predeceased by his natural father, Larry Ray Wentzel Sr., his brother John Thurston, and his great nephew Carson Bragg. Larry leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. Larry's memory will be cherished by his extensive family and the many friends whose lives he touched. A gathering of love and storytelling will be held at his mother's home at 198 Edwards Drive in Millen Georgia on Saturday May 18, 2024 from 12:00-4:00 pm.
