Lamar Batt Gay went to meet his maker on June 3, 2013. He was 89 years old on May 18th. Lamar was the son of the late John Batt Gay and Kathleen Boswell Gay. He was born at home in the Thrift Community of Jenkins County in 1924.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen Stephens Gay, his parents and both of his brothers T. Etheld and C. Emerson Gay.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Hearn Gay, sons Wayne Lamar Gay (Syble) of Dublin, David Gordon Gay (Darlene) of Millen, stepsons Carroll Emerson Gay, John B. Gay of Millen and Kathy Bacon of Milledgeville. He is also survived by grandchildren Tracy W. Gay, DMD; Skye Gay Estep, Amy Keldie, Andy Gay, Jennifer Gay and several step grandchildren. Also, he is survived by 8 great grandchildren.
He was a member and was an ordained deacon at Millen Baptist Church where he was also a member of the BOCH Sunday School Class. He served as a member of Millen City Council for 22 years and served one term as Mayor of the City of Millen. He served in various capacities with the Georgia Municipal Association both at the district and state level. He also served on the Board of the CSRA Planning and Development Commission as well as the Development Authority of Jenkins County.
Mr. Gay was a member of the Millen Lions Club for 65 years having perfect attendance for at least 52 years. He served as secretary for 45 years and served District 18-F in many capacities over the years including Deputy District Governor. He was a member of the Screven Lodge of Masonic Masons and a member of Alee Shrine Temple.
He served as President and owner of Gay Loan and Finance Company of Millen for 43 years. He served in various other positions including for many years as an agent and staff manager for Interstate Life Insurance Co. One of his greatest joys was being a member of a group of municipal officials that who played golf at some of the world's greatest golf courses. Another enjoyment that he had for many years was fishing with his many friends including the late Frank Edenfield. Still another joy was his morning coffee club which he attended for many years.

Funeral services will be held at Millen Baptist Church at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013 with Dr. Maurice Crowder, Dr. Cliff Morris, Rev. David Wheeler and Rev. Dick Burrell. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home, Millen, GA.
Active Pallbearers will be Tracy Gay, Frank Estep, Andy Gay, Daniel Keldie, Zac Keldie, and Dalton Martin.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Millen Lions Club, the BOCH Sunday School Class, and the Eight O'clock Coffee Club.
