Obituary

Kathy Gay Lee, 71, of Millen was called home to be with our Lord on November 3, 2024.  Born in Jenkins County, she was a member of Garfield Baptist Church, a 1971 graduate of Buckhead Academy, and she attended North Georgia College.

Kathy was deeply devoted to the ones she loved.  She could be found supporting her many family and friends at dance recitals, beauty pageants, ballgames, book fairs, or weddings nearly every single week or weekend.  Over the years, she cared for numerous children from the community in her home, and she considered each one of them as her own.  Her smile could light up a room, and her laughter was filled with so much joy that it was impossible not to become tickled and break out in laughter yourself.  If Kathy was present, there was fun to be had!

Kathy enjoyed trips with her family to the mountains, the beach, and especially "sister trips" to Bryson City, Dahlonega, and Biltmore Estate.  Those who knew her well know dancing was always a favorite pastime, and she was good at it.  She proudly and unashamedly proclaimed herself as The Dancing Queen of The South.  But her favorite pastime was spending days with her family, especially her six grandchildren who were the lights of their GaGa's existence!

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, John Harry and Kathryn Gay and youngest sister Johnna Gay Lee, all of Garfield.  Survivors include her devoted husband and love of her life, Chris Lee of Millen; four children, Kyla Bowers (Michael) Mincey of Millen; Kori Bowers (Tim) Dumas of Holly Springs, NC; Krislyn Lee of Millen; and Cal Lee of Millen; six grandchildren, Vic Mincey, Kyleigh Anne Dumas, Timmy Dumas, John Wright Beasley, Wills Beasley, and Brooks Sweat; three sisters, Cynthia Bragg of Waynesboro; Nancy (Carter) Crawford of Sylvania; and Sarah Jane (Walter) Odiorne of Blythewood, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Friday, November 8th at Hebron Cemetery in Garfield with Pastors Carroll Gay and Brad Asbury officiating.  Visitation will follow the services.  Active Pallbearers will be Ley Crawford, Clark Crawford, Tres Bragg, Wes Lee, Kade Lee, Keller Lee, and Jay Bowers.

Memorials may be made to Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o John W. Cowart, Sr., 70A Bethany Way, Statesboro, GA 30458 or to Garfield Baptist Church, P. O. Box 175, Garfield, GA 30425.
