Kathryn Harrington Gay of Garfield, Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 16, 2021. She passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Sylvania, Georgia, after a short illness.

Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 59 years, John Harry Gay, Jr.  She was born on April 12, 1927, to the late Essie Mae Boatright Sutton of Twin City, Georgia, and the late William Waltmon Harrington of Monroe, Louisiana. She was blessed with two wonderful step-parents who she dearly loved; the late Claude E. Sutton and the late Jennie Maggio Harrington.

Mrs. Gay lived the majority of her life with her husband and their five daughters on their farm in Garfield. Never one to shy away from hard work, she spent her days supporting her husband and doing all she could to help keep the wheels turning at the farm on the hill. Many of her happiest days were spent there doing her favorite things; making a home, being Mama, and rearing their girls alongside her husband.

In 1944 Mrs. Gay was valedictorian at ECI High School and later served there as a teacher. She also taught at Buckhead Academy from 1970-1980 where she enjoyed teaching her students. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, reading, and watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and the Georgia Bulldogs play football on television. She was a member of Garfield Baptist Church where she once served as a Sunday school teacher and pianist, and was a past member of the WMU.

Survivors include her five daughters, Cynthia Gay Bragg of Waynesboro; Nancy Gay Crawford (Carter) of Sylvania; Kathy Gay Lee (Chris) of Millen; Sarah Jane Gay Odiorne (Walter) of Blythewood, SC; and Johnna Gay Lee (Jon) of Garfield; a sister, Claire Sutton Diffenderfer (Buddy) of Charleston, SC; a sister-in-law, Nell Pardue Gay of Savannah, GA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons J.J. Crawford, Ley Crawford, Clark Crawford, Tres Bragg, Cal Lee, Kade Lee, Keller Lee, and Wes Lee.

Honorary pallbearers will be students of Buckhead Academy.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Hebron Cemetery in Garfield with Revs. Bob Conley and Franklin Sasser officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
