Judy Lanier Phillips, 70, of Millen, had her going home celebration on Monday, October 19, 2020 at University Hospital in Augusta after an extended illness.
Judy was born in Jenkins County and was a lifelong resident. She retired from the Department of Family and Children Services in Swainsboro after 34 years of service. Judy was a lifelong member of the Garfield United Methodist Church where she served as youth leader, treasurer, and the pianist since the 5 th grade. She was also a member of the Emanuel County Historic Preservation Society and the Garfield Community Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Grady and Mabel Hickman Lanier, her siblings Opal Lanier Hall, Fannie Pearl Lanier, Ella Lanier Johnson, Henry Grady Lanier, Jr. and Reamer Randel Lanier.
From the moment Judy came into the world she had an incredible zeal for life with unbelievable energy. She was a ray of light to everyone she met, filling our lives with happiness and joy. She loved people and had a passion for helping others whenever or wherever the opportunity arose. She loved life and she loved her family. Judy enjoyed sitting at her kitchen table, listening to music or reading her bible. During her quiet time she loved to write personal notes to her friends and family. She was most proud of her Jimmy, her children and her three precious granddaughters.
Judy is survived by her husband Jimmy R. Phillips of Millen, her son Scott Lanier Phillips (Lori) of Camden, South Carolina, her daughter LeAnn Phillips Snellgrove (Matt) with granddaughters Emily Anne Gaudry, Lelah Elizabeth Snellgrove and Mattie Grace Snellgrove all of Nunez, several nieces, nephews and cousins who she loved dearly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home in Millen, GA. Following a private family ceremony, a public graveside service will take place on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 12:15 PM at the Lewis Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations to the Garfield United Methodist Church or the Garfield United Methodist Church Youth Program, P O Box 177, Garfield, GA 30425.
