Mr. Joseph L. Burke, Sr., 75, of Millen, died Saturday, April 14, 2012.

He was born in Jenkins County, veteran of the U. S. Navy, retired plant manager for Jockey International where he received the Distinguished Service Award in 1991, and was a member of the Midville Baptist Church but attended Millen Baptist Church and the Boch Sunday School Class.

He was also a farmer, life member of the North Jenkins Fire Department, and was recipient of the Millen Rotary Club Rotarian of the Year award in 1995.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse W. Burke and Nora R. Burke.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday at the Millen Baptist Church with Rev. David Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Weathersby Burke; a son, Joseph L. Burke Jr. of San Diego, CA; a daughter, Leigh Ann Burke Hendrix of Warner Robins; 2 grandchildren, Joseph Brooks Hendrix and Joshua Kasey Hendrix; a brother, Jesse W. Burke of Midville; and a sister, Hazel Mead of Midville.

Active Pallbearers will be Nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Boch Sunday School Class and the North Jenkins Fire Department.

Memorials may be made to Millen Baptist Church or North Jenkins Volunteer Fire Department.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.
