Dr. John Ell Hendley, Sr., age 83, died Friday, April 17, 2015 at Serenity Hospice in Dublin after an extended illness.

He was born in Emanuel County, U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and also served as a Lt. Colonel in the U. S. Air Force as a Physician, and he was a member of the Millen United Methodist Church.
He graduated from Georgia Southern University and the Medical College of Georgia. He practiced medicine in Sylvania then moved to Millen where he practiced for 49 years. He loved all his patients in Millen and all the surrounding counties.

He had been a member of the Millen Rotary Club, Millen Jaycees, Chairman of the Jenkins County Hospital Authority, and a Jenkins County Commissioner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia Parham and John Harvey Hendley and O. Z. Cowart, and his brother, Derrell Hendley.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m. Sunday at the Millen United Methodist Church with Dr. Cliff Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the Hebron Cemetery in Garfield.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Robbie Nell Clark Hendley; sons, John Ell (Cindy) Hendley Jr. of Newnan, Jay (Patti) Hendley of Dublin, and Clark (Cindy) Hendley of St. Simons; his daughter, Hayley (Joe) Taylor of Athens; a brother, Jimmy Cowart of Garfield; grandchildren, John E. Hendley III, Mary Anna Coles, Katie Hendley, James Hendley, Scott Hendley, Robin Hendley, Jake Hendley, Tyler Hendley, Lauren Hendley, Duncan Taylor, and Emma Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Jake Hendley, Tyler Hendley, Scott Hendley, Duncan Taylor, Wesley Hendley, and Jim Cowart.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses of Serenity Hospice of Dublin.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Saturday at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home in Millen.
