Obituary

Jimmy Winston Brannen Jr passed away on the evening of Apr 21, 2022. He was born in Metter, GA on August 5th of 1970 to Nancy Wise and Jimmy Brannen. He grew up in Portal, GA, before graduating from Swainsboro High School. He later earned a degree in Education from Georgia Southern University and spent 16 years diligently teaching the students of Jenkins County Elementary School. Some of his other achievements include three relay runs across the state of Georgia to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior project, completing the Thunder Road Marathon in Charlotte, NC, and helping the JCHS cross country team to win the 2014 GHSA A-Public State Championship. In addition to running, Jimmy was also passionate about biking, kayaking, camping, singing, and serving in various ministries at Oak Hill Baptist Church. His life ended from a battle with cancer, but, in the words of comedian Norm McDonald, "If you die, the cancer dies at the same time. That's not a loss. That's a draw".

He is preceded in death by his grandfather Emory Brannen and his father Jimmy.

He will be loved and remembered by his children Mark Brannen and Alyssa Davis (and soon to be grandson 'Baby D'), his mother Nancy, his siblings Julie Selph and John Brannen, aunt, Nancy Brannen Marsh, as well as extended family and the Jenkins County Schools community.

Oak Hill Baptist Church will host a visitation on Sunday April 24th at 1:30pm, followed by a funeral service at 3:00pm. Burial will follow in the Paynes Chapel Cemetery.
