Obituary

Jimmie O. Edenfield passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the age of 90.  Jimmie was born in Candler County on August 15, 1933, to William Henry Edenfield and Myram Addie Grubbs Edenfield, he was the "baby" and last surviving sibling of brother J.R. Edenfield and sisters Eunice Williams and Katie Lewis.  He lived most of his life in Millen, Jenkins County where he graduated from Millen High School in 1951 and where he raised his daughters Vikki Edenfield Womack (Ronnie) of Swainsboro, GA and Kim Edenfield Boatright (Robert) of Millen, GA alongside his wife of 63 years, Betty Durden Edenfield, until her death on March 28, 2015.

He began employment by working with his parents, in their family grocery store "Edenfield's Clover Farm" a career which lasted over 20 years, and which produced many fond memories and friendships.  He also worked as an Insurance Salesman/Crowe Fields Funeral Home and later began a career in banking, retiring from the Ogeechee Valley Bank/Queensboro, as a Vice President and Loan Officer.

Jimmie had a servant's heart- he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, as staff Sergeant.  He served his community as a Board Member for the Jenkins County Board of Education for over 10 years, a member of the American Legion, served in the Millen Lions Club for over 51 years, was the last living Charter member of the Magnolia Country Club, an honorary lifetime member of the Millen Jaycees and was listed in "Who's Who in Georgia" in 1973 and enjoyed fellowship in the 8 o'clock coffee club.

He was an active member of the Millen Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and was a member of the BOCH Sunday School class.

The value of one's life can be measured by many things but for Jimmie, one of his most precious treasures were his grandchildren and his role as "PaPa."

Grandchildren: Ron Womack (Stacey) Guyton, GA; Amber Burk (John) Richmond Hill, GA; Blake Gay (Danielle) Waynesboro, GA; Tyler Womack (Megan) Swainsboro, GA; Lin Hurst II (April) Millen, GA

Jimmie was very fortunate to have been blessed with ninety years of life which enabled him to be "PaPa" to his great grandchildren: Briley and Kinsley Womack, Cade and Cal Womack, Addie Grace and Charleigh Rose Gay, Hudson and Brenna Burk, Hope Gilberstadt (Josh), Lindy Hurst III, Lillian Hurst, Kayley and Ben Flanders, as well as, a great great grandchild Stone Gilberstadt.

Special Friend: Janette Keezel and several nieces and nephews

Our family has been blessed to have been given such a remarkable man as our Daddy and Papa.  Family was such an important part of his life and was shown in his daily living.   We have shared him, with so many, because for "Jimmie O" "Family" was never defined by DNA but by his love for others.

He truly loved people, all people, he enjoyed sharing with those he loved and building lasting relationships.  His legacy will live on in the love that he shared, the lives he touched and the memories he gave us ……He will remain in our hearts forever.
