Obituary

Mr. Jesse Edward Guthrie, 71, of Millen, died Friday, December 25, 2015 at his residence after a very short illness.

Funeral Services for Mr. Guthrie will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Archer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Guthrie was born November 17, 1944 in Ajo, AZ to the late Geneviere Elvesta "Jimmie" Malone and Jess Wildrige "Jake" Guthrie. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. Jesse retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad where he worked as a Conductor, Brakeman, and Flagman. Then he was a supervisor locomotive Engineer and FRA Track Foreman on the Ogeechee Railway. He served in the U. S. Army from February 25, 1964 until February 24, 1970. He loved spending time with his family and always put them first.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Guthrie and a daughter, Angela "Angie" Guthrie Oglesby.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Matt Bird; Son-in-law, Rodney Oglesby all of Millen; grandchildren, Justin Williams, Chris (Lindsey) Oglesby, Travis (Melissa) Williams, Bryan Oglesby, and Chelsea Clayton, all of Millen; and a great grandchild, Ella Williams of Millen; and several nieces and nephews.

Active Pallbearers will be John Moore, James Graham, Ricky Lane, Johnny Smith, Rick Lane Jr., and Michael Smith.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Veteran of the Community and Millen Lions Club.

Visitation will be 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.
