Obituary

Roy Head, 76, of Millen, GA died on November 14, 2013 after a long illness.

Roy was born in Monroe, GA. He was a member of Millen Baptist Church. He attended Georgia Military College, Georgia Southern Teacher College, and the University of Georgia School of Agriculture. He did his student teaching in Jenkins County in the spring of 1959 and accepted a teaching and an assistant coaching job. He moved to Worth Co to teach and coach for two years. He returned to Jenkins County in 1963 as Head Football coach and to teach P.E. During his coaching career, he also coached boy's track, girl's basketball and golf. Inl968, he and his family moved to Athens, GA for five years to co-own and operate Carrolton Carpets. He returned to Jenkins County to teach and do what he loved most, coach. He left coaching in 1980 but continued teaching Agriculture/Shop until he retired in 1995. After retiring he worked at Good Company Plantation for 5 years.

The Funeral service will be 2:00 p. m. Saturday at Millen Baptist with Rev. David Wheeler and Father Mike Ingram officiating. Rev. Butch Taylor will officiate at the grave following the service at the Millen Cemetery.

Roy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Preston Head of Millen, GA. His children and their spouses, Cindy Head Linder married to Brien Linder of Millen, GA, Mike Head married to Anette Brown Head of Millen, GA, and Steve Head married to Corinne Smith Head of Cumming, GA. His grandchildren Jamie Linder Wilkinson married to Jacob Wilkinson of Vidalia, GA, Seth Linder of Millen, GA, Katelyn Head DeKalb married to Taylor DeKalb of Nashville, TN, Jessica Head of Millen, GA, Ashley Head of Cumming, GA and Blake Head of Cumming, GA. and also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warner and Sara Head of Monroe, GA.

Active pallbearers are Gus Cheney, Tracy Edenfield, Franklin Garvin, Bud Johnson, Joe Law, King Rocker, Julian Wade, Kenneth Williams, and Henry Young.

Honorary pallbearers will be former Jenkins Co. football players and other former athletes coached by Coach Head.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. Friday at Crowe-Field Funeral Home.
