James Thomas Baxley, age 77 of Atlanta, GA was mercifully taken to his heavenly home early on the morning of September 28 by his Savior Jesus Christ, after a brief struggle with cancer.

Jim was born on September 19, 1949 and raised in Miami, FL by his loving parents Willis and Jimmie Anne Baxley. Family was always an important part of Jim’s life. After the death of both of his parents, he moved to Atlanta, GA to be with his 3 siblings and their families. Jim had a long and storied career with the Federal Reserve Bank, first in Miami and then in Atlanta until his retirement in 2010. He was a dedicated, determined and dependable employee, rarely missing a day of work. Jim loved working at the Bank and was well-known and loved by his fellow employees. He also enjoyed traveling in the US and Europe. Jim was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in downtown Miami from birth until he moved to Atlanta. He enjoyed serving as the friendly elevator operator as well as an usher at the church. He loved to say “You can’t beat God” and as his health was failing he often commented that he knew God was holding him in the palm of His hand.

Jim had a way of becoming everyone's favorite. Staff and residents at the assisted living communities he lived in often referred to him as their favorite resident and how they'll never forget him. He had a wonderful sense of humor, which especially brightened the long shifts of the night nurses. Jim loved the holidays and was happy to show it, wearing his Santa hat and matching Santa slippers. Most Tuesdays and Thursdays you could find him waiting in line at the snack store or vending machine for his favorites: 3 Musketeers, Milky Way, Diet Coke, V8, and Cheetos. He was a huge Chick-fil-A fan. To many, he was simply the favorite uncle. Jim was beloved by all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed. Don’t worry…”We’ll never forget you, Jim!”

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Willis and Jimmie Anne Baxley, brother-in-law, Jim Moore and his nephew Will Gordon. He is survived by his older brother Bill Baxley, sister-in-law Dee Baxley, and his two younger sisters, Julie Moore and Angie Miller and his brother-in-law Rich Miller and around 40 nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews. Jim fiercely loved his family and he was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by all of us.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at AG Rhodes Atlanta at 350 Boulevard SE, Atlanta GA on Saturday, October 10 from 11 am - 1 pm. There will be a graveside service the next day in Millen, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests in honor of Jim’s life and legacy, memorial donations may be made to A.G. Rhodes, whose dedicated team cared for him during his final days. Checks can be made payable and mailed to AG Rhodes Atlanta, 350 Boulevard SE, Atlanta, GA 30312.
