Hephzibah, Ga. - Jabe Virgil Mims, 79, of 2571 Patterson Bridge Road, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

Mr. Mims was born in Hephzibah on March 13, 1934. He was a former resident of Saluda, South Carolina but resided in Hephzibah for most of his life. Mr. Mims sold life insurance for Interstate Life for 19 years before returning to his real love of farming. Mr. Mims loved being in his fields rounding up his cattle. He was an avid Braves fan and spent many hours watching baseball with his grandson. He treasured the time he was able to spend with all of his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Rebeckah Crowe Mims, Hephzibah, GA; two sons, Jay V. Craft (Cathy), Lawton, OK, William B. Mims (Beverly), Hephzibah, GA; two daughters, Pamela C. Hixon (Charlie), Apache, OK, Maria C. Martin, (Matt), Lawton, OK; two brothers, William Miller Mims (Margaret), Augusta, GA, Charles David Mims, (Faye), Hephzibah, GA; 11 grandchildren, namely, Katelyn Craft, Rebecca Craft, Jessica Craft, Jordan Clark, Heather Ogea (Zac), William Mims, Olivia Mims, Elizabeth Johnson (Bill), Melissa Mullen (Michael), Matthew Martin, and Mary Martin; four great grandchildren and one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Henry Mims and Nellie Ray Mims, both of Hephzibah, GA; four brothers, Frederick Henry Mims, Jr. (Catherine), Augusta, Thomas Watson Mims (Nona), Hephzibah, Robert Leslie Mims (Mary), Augusta, John Benjamin Mims (Wilma), Millen; four sisters Mary Mims Davis (Jim), Augusta, Virginia Mims Dorn (Louis), Augusta, Lucy Mims McKellar (Leonard), Augusta, and Nellie Sue Mims, Hephzibah.

The family will receive family and friends on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church, 4233 Old Waynesboro Road, Hephzibah, Georgia.

There will be a graveside service held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, at Millen Cemetery with Pastor Robert Driggers officiating.
