Irene Freeman Aaron, born January 5, 1935, in Screven County, and passed from this world into eternity, January 8, 2012, in Nashville, TN after a brief but inspiring battle with cancer.
She met her future husband of 57 years, Charles Matthew Aaron, on a blind date in 1953, and set off on a life's journey with him in 1954 as a mother, homemaker, and in later years, as a nurse and provider. She was the youngest of three children of Homer and Lozzie Mae Freeman, who precede her in death in 1975 and in 1943, respectively. With hard times during the war, and after her mother's death, she was separated from her brother Hubert Freeman, and sister Carolyn Freeman Grizzard, and sent to live with an aunt. There she grew to love her cousin Lillian Parker as a sister, and the two played as tomboys growing up.

She is survived by Charles and their two sons, Charles Matthew Aaron, Jr., of Hawkinsville, GA, and Mark Freeman Aaron, of Nashville, TN, b. 1965. She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Sherri Freeney Aaron, and Jennifer Vance Aaron. She leaves behind five adoring grandchildren, Kristopher Daniel Aaron (w. Clary), of Hillsboro, TX, Jonathan Bradley Aaron (w. Amanda), of Perry, GA, and Hannah Elizabeth Aaron, William Andrew Aaron, and Mark Jackson Aaron, all of Nashville, as well as many extended family and friends.

The funeral will be at Elam Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012, with Dr. Maurice Crowder and Rev. Kevin Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Jonathan Aaron and William Aaron, and longtime family friends Charlie Dempsey, Mitchell Johnson, Rayburn Johnson, and Danny Bennett.

Visitation will be at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home in Millen, GA on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
