George Michael Curl, 53, Millen, GA, entered into rest after a short illness on August 17, 2026.

Michael was born in Swainsboro, Georgia, to the late George Wendell Curl and Syble Durden Curl. He was a loving husband, father, Pa, and friend.

Michael leaves behind his beloved wife of 36 years, Jeannine Bragg Curl; his daughter, Kalaya Jeannine Curl (Steven Gaiser); his grandson, Michael Gates Curl, and his "Sweet Pea," Lettie Ruth, also his two furbabies Jerry Lee and Carl.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Syble Curl; his sister, Dianne B. Atkinson (Clifford); his brothers, Ronnie Bedgood (Laurie) and Larry Bedgood; his mother and father-in-law, Jesse "Buck" and Mary Bragg; his brother-in-law, Jessie Bragg; and his best friend, Tim Johnson.

Michael worked as a carpenter for many years, where his ability to build, repair, and create reflected the kind of man he was. He was often found outside under The SHED entertaining his closest friends whether it was playing pool, watching the race or simply hanging out after a long day's work. He later worked with the City of Millen as a Code Enforcer until his retirement. For six years, Michael courageously battled end-stage kidney disease and heart failure. Through it all, he continued to be the strong, loving presence his family and friends knew and cherished.

To know Michael Curl was to know he was definitely a jack of all trades. If something was broken, Michael would figure out a way to fix it. There was rarely a problem he couldn't solve, and if he didn't know how to do something, he would find a way to learn. He was dependable, resourceful, and always willing to help anyone.

Michael was also a true pit master winning numerous BBQ competitions. He could work his magic over the grill and smoker, making the best ribs, chopped pork, chicken, and sauce. His food was more than a meal—it was a way he brought people together and shared a little piece of himself with those he loved.

He was patient and kind, with a generous heart. Michael would give you the shirt off his back without thinking twice. Though he never liked his hands to be physically dirty, he was never afraid to get his hands busy helping others. He was the kind of person people could depend on—the kind who showed up, helped out, and never expected anything in return.

Michael cherished spending time with Jeannine, Kalaya, Steven, and Gates. They were his world. Where you saw one, you would often see the others. Their love and togetherness were a beautiful reflection of the family Michael held so close to his heart.

Michael Curl will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. His hands may no longer be here to build, repair, or create, but the things he built in the hearts of his family and friends will remain forever.

Michael was the sun on many dark days. His smile, his humor, his kindness, and simply having him around could make a difficult day feel a little lighter. His absence will leave a void that will never truly be filled.

To love Michael was a blessing, but to have been loved by Michael was a gift that will never be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Oak Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Joshua Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service.
