Mrs. Gail Sharpe Sumner, age 77, of 1585 Hiltonia Rd., died Sunday, May 10, 2015 at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born in Jenkins County, had been a teacher but retired after 30 years as a case worker for the Jenkins County Department of Family and Children Services. She was also an active member of the Edith Cavell Chapter 193 Order of the Eastern Star fir 34 year, and Green Fork Baptist Church where she was active in the Women's Missionary Union and had been assistant director of the Big Horse Creek W. M. U.
She had been past Worthy Matron of Sardis #382, Secretary of Edith Cavell #193, Assistant Grand Director of the Drill Team, and served as Martha 2003 – 2004 and was presently serving as Martha.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wendell Sumner and daughter, Debra Gail S. Sommers.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, at the Green Fork Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Freeman and Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating and with full Eastern Star Honors. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Starke Clu Sumner of Millen; two grandsons Ryan and Loyd Sommers of Savannah; a granddaughter, Joelle Sumner Posey (Daniel) and a great grandson, Karson Archer.
Active Pallbearers will be David A. Dickey, Lee Dickey, Charles Sikes, Bee Jay Rollins, Bobby Braswell, and Benji Boone.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Eastern Star.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Green Fork Baptist Church, 1569 Green Fork Church Rd., Millen, GA 30442.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.
