Mr. Fred B. "Sonny" Newton, age 82, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Bethany Nursing Center.

Mr. Fred B. "Sonny" Newton, age 82, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Bethany Nursing Center.

He was born in Emanuel County, a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a retired executive vice-president for Ogeechee Valley Bank, and member of Millen Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, past member of the Millen Rotary Club, the Jaycees and the American Cancer Society.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Monday, at Millen Baptist Church with the Rev. David Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Millen Baptist Church Social Hall.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Thigpen Newton; a son, Keith (Lisa McGlamry) Newton of Centerville; a daughter, Sonya (Emory G. III) Lane of Warner Robins; two sisters, Bobbie (Ted) Mason of Lexington, NC and Linda May of Batesville, IN; four grandchildren, Brad Lane, Ashley (Jonathan) Broadie, Chance Newton, and Courtney Newton; a great grandchild, Bailey Ann Broadie; caregiver and personal friend Mattie Harden.

Active Pallbearers will be Emory G. Lane III, Brad Lane, Jonathan Broadie, Paul Smith, Darrell Clifton, Coley Clifton, Chris Clifton, and Al McConnell.
