Frances
Hawes
Jul 8, 1932 — Jul 10, 2025
Perkins
Frances Hawes passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loved ones, on July 10, 2025. She was born on July 8, 1932, in Emanuel County to the late Tom P. Boatright and Hedy Boatright.
Frances is survived by her devoted husband, Milner Hawes; her brother Tom Boatright, Jr.; her son, Larry Turner (Vinita); her daughter, Melba Bragg; and her stepchildren, Geri Whitfield, Bruce Hawes (Jury), Gary Hawes (Nancy), and David Hawes (Connie). She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren, and 7 step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom P. and Hedy Boatright, six siblings, and one stepdaughter.
Frances was a true example of grace, kindness, and unconditional love. To know her was to be embraced by warmth, compassion, and a gentle spirit that radiated in everything she did. She was known by her family and friends as a sweet and loving woman whose life was built on faith, family, and selfless service to others.
She had a gift for making people feel at home—whether through her comforting presence, her encouraging words, or the meals she lovingly prepared in her kitchen. Sunday dinners and family gatherings were a highlight for all who knew her, not just for the delicious food, but for the love that filled the room when Frances was there.
She worked for many years at Jockey while raising her family and remained a pillar of strength and encouragement to those around her. She was a faithful member of Habersham Church and lived her faith quietly but powerfully, offering prayers, wisdom, and a kind word to anyone in need.
Her sweet smile could light up a room, and her legacy of love, generosity, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home in Millen, GA. The funeral service will be Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Habersham Church, with interment to follow at Elam Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Yolanda Sherrod for the devoted and loving care she gave during Frances's final months.
