Evelyn Brack Gay died Monday afternoon, February 6, 2012 at the Optim Medical Center in Millen. She was born September 24, 1919 to James Guy and Mattie Brack of McIntyre, Georgia. In 1941, Evelyn came to Millen to a job at the Vanoy Restaurant at the Millen train depot. Soon after arriving, she met the love of her life, John L. Gay, who would be her husband for 60 years until his death in 2001. During World War II, the young couple worked in Savannah building Liberty Ships. After the war, Evelyn and John L. returned to Millen where they lived, worked and raised their daughter. In 1984, Evelyn retired after a long career with Jockey International in Millen.

Evelyn was a devoted member of Millen Baptist Church and was widely known to be a warm and caring person, a friend to everyone. She was a gregarious, generous, kind and considerate Christian woman who had many friends. She will be sadly missed. In recent years Evelyn experienced failing health and was a patient at the Bethany Nursing Center in Millen.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Sam, G. M., and Pete.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at the Millen Cemetery with Dr. Charles Strickland and Rev. David Wheeler officiating.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debra (Carlton) Wiggins of Statesboro, her sister-in-law, Sara Nell Gay of Millen, two sisters, Dorothy Brack Dent and Vera Brack Yaun, both of Macon, her only grandchild, Hillary Wiggins (Chris) Edgar, and great granddaughter, Blythe Evelyn Edgar, all of Covington.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.
