Elizabeth Johnson Echols, 85, widow of Harold L. Echols, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Thomson, Georgia on September 23, 2022. Betty longed to return home to Millen but had convalesced there for two years.
The family will receive friends at the church at 2:30 on Sunday and at the graveside following the burial.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm at Millen Baptist Church on Sunday, September 25 with Rev. Brad Asbury officiating. Interment will follow in Millen City Cemetery.
Betty was a faithful member of Millen Baptist Church and the Anita Tinley Sunday School Class, a double graduate of Georgia Southern University, and retired from the Jenkins County School system with a long and distinguished career in teaching. She was most proud of her legacy as a native and lifelong resident of Millen.
She is survived by her daughter Pamela E. Walker and husband Gene, granddaughter Ashley Elizabeth W. Morey and husband Josh, and grandson Wesley Echols Walker, all of Thomson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Betty was eagerly anticipating the January arrival of great granddaughter Sophie Elizabeth Morey.
Predeceasing Betty were her parents Jesse M. Johnson, Sr. and Inez Johnson Glisson and siblings Edward K. Johnson, Jesse M. Johnson, Jr., Margueritte O'Quinn, Viola Taylor, and Katherene Bennett.
Active and honorary pallbearers will be Al Knight, Bill Knight, Robert Boatright, Jimmy Edenfield, Heyward Cordy, Tim Frawley and nephews Keith Taylor, Ricky Taylor, Tony Hinson, Don Johnson, Mike Johnson, Jerry Dailey, Johnny Dailey, Stacy Bennett, Ronnie Johnson, and Matt Echols and members of the BOCH Sunday School Class.
Betty received loving care from Mary Hall, Jessica Thomas, Mary Brinkley, and Joyce Huff for which her family will be forever grateful.
