Elbert Roy "Al" McConnell, age 90, died Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Brown's Nursing Home in Statesboro.
He was born in Hammond, IN on September 11, 1927 to Alma Watts and Maron McConnell.
He was educated in public schools in Hammond and Perdue University. He was a Tooling Engineer for Rockwell and Brooks Instruments in Statesboro for 59 years. He was a Boy Scout leader for 18 years and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and member of Millen Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Norman McConnell, and 2 nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday at from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday at the Millen Baptist Church with Revs. Perry Hearn, Dallas Wilson, and Brad Asbury officiating. Burial to follow in the Millen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Todd, Wes Kicklighter, Darrel Clifton, Kenny McElveen, Charles Oliver, Bobby Walker, Michael Bolton, and Shane Nesbitt.
Honorary Pallbearers will be former employees of Rockwell and Brooks Instruments.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years Shelvy Jean McConnell; daughter, JoEllen Gantt of Woodstock; 2 sons, Timothy W. Frawley (Debbie) of Millen and David R. McConnell of Manchester, TN; a sister, Alice Robinson of Hammond, IN; 12 grandchildren, Whitney Frawley of Pooler, Taylor Frawley (Crisalyn) of Millen, Tori Frawley (Evan Brower) of Sylvania, Mindy Gantt, Rhett Kicklighter, and Laura Atwater (Blake) of Atlanta, Brittany, Dillon, and Ryan McConnell of Manchester, TN, Skylar Bragg (Justin), Jessie Aaron (Wesley) of Millen, and Jennifer Chambers of Waynesboro; 9 great grandchildren, Mikala, Coleman, and Sutton Frawley, Bennett Atwater, Wyatt Hall, Paisley McConnell, Aidan and McKinley Bragg and Paisley Aaron.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brown's Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center Christmas Fund of Statesboro, GA.
