Obituary

Edward Woodrow Wilson, a lifelong resident of Jenkins County, Georgia passed away on May 12, 2021, at the age of 97.

Edward was born on March 5, 1924 to John Cain Wilson, Sr and Blanche Daniel Wilson. After graduating from Millen High School, Edward attended Georgia Southern College until he entered the service and fought during World War II where he earned a Purple Heart . After the war, he attended the University of Georgia and obtained his degree in Business Administration. He then followed his father into the family business, Wilson's Furniture & Hardware Co. Inc., which he ran until he retired in 2009.  Edward was a proud member of the Millen United Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the Beulah Garner Sunday School Class. He loved his church and his church family. Edward served his beloved community in many civic organizations including the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Millen Merchants Association, Jenkins County Development Authority and the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Waters Wilson; his parents, John Cain Wilson, Sr. and Blanche Daniel Wilson; two brothers, John Cain Wilson, Jr. and Lamar Frank Wilson.

Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Millen United Methodist Church with funeral to follow at 4:00 pm with Rev. John Drake officiating.

Burial will follow in the Millen Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherri Smith (Daniel) of Millen; his son, Bill of Augusta; four grandchildren, Rhett Smith of Millen,  Tori(Jeff) Osteen of Midway, Matt (Leigh Ann) Wilson of Eatonton and Meghan (Brian) Wages of Woodstock; five great-grandchildren, Emily Osteen, Ella Cate Osteen, Ruth Wilson, Emerson Wages and Adelyn Wages; as well as many nieces and nephews.  A special thanks to his Home Care Team, Joanne, Martha, Tori and Mattie.

Active Pallbearers are Troy Polk, Roy Cheney, Jody Bowers, Heywood Frye, Howdy McTeer, and John Cleve Newton.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Eight O'clock Coffee Club and the Beulah Garner Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Millen United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 750, Millen, GA or an animal shelter of your choice.
