Doris Saxon Rhodes, 94, passed peacefully on March 14, 2024.
Born April 26, 1929, as the eldest of 5 children and a lifelong resident of Jenkins County. In September 1946, she married her sweetheart, Paul Rhodes. She spent much of her life serving others, but her most rewarding was as Director of the Jenkins County Training Center, now Jenco Services where she worked with developmentally delayed adults and prepared them to live independently in the community until her retirement in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Floy Saxon. Her husband, Steve Paul Rhodes, and an infant son, Darrel Keith Rhodes.
She is survived by her sons Randy (Susan) Rhodes of Millen, and Phil (Wanda) Rhodes of Perkins. Sisters, Jackie Heath of Montmorenci, SC, Velma Joyner or Millen, Thelma Jeselnik of Dunlap, TN, and Faye Skinner or Augusta, GA. Grandchildren Trevor (Rachel) Rhodes, Irmo, SC, Daniel (Maegan) Rhodes, Springfield, GA; Adrian (Ron) McDaniel, Statesboro; Tracy Harley, Kathy (Don) Hoyt, Bellaire, MI; and Greg (Amanda) Rudy, Ellicott City, MD, as well as 11 great- grandchildren.
Family will receive visitors, Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Ellis Chapel Methodist church. Funeral services at 11:00am, internment to follow in Millen Cemetery.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Pruitt Hospice for the excellent care provided. Your kindness and care did not go unnoticed.
