Obituary

Bobby Joe Cowart, age 80, went to his Heavenly home Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Ogeechee Area Hospice under wonderful care and surrounded by loved ones, led by his devoted wife, Polly, and his twin sister, Sue.

Today he is in Heaven walking across his fields surveying his crops and singing. All of these are things he enjoyed while on God's green earth. He is there with his many family members and friends that have gone before him and he is petting his many faithful dogs and cats that are greeting him tails wagging.

Bobby was born June 22, 1935 in Bulloch County to Claude M. and Susie Gay Cowart. He spent many years with his grandparents B.L. and Kate Gay in Jenkins County. He then went to live with his parents in Bulloch County. He graduated from Portal High School where he played basketball and participated in many activities while working on the family farm. Farming was his calling and his joy. In 1956 he met and married the love of his life, Polly Dyches. They were married March 28, 1957 in the house where he was grew up. He served his country in the United States Army Reserve. He continued to farm until 1987. He completed his career at Savannah Technical College and retired in 1998 to return to the farm.

He was an active member of Elam Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and sang in the choir. He also served in many agricultural related leadership roles.

He is preceded by his parents and brothers, B.L. Cowart and Cecil D. Cowart and special brother-in-law, Al. F. Cox and sister-in-law, Bobbie D. Collins.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Polly Dyches Cowart, daughter Kaye Dowell, son-in-law William A. Dowell and granddaughter Elisabeth Dowell, his twin sister Barbara Sue Cox, Brothers and sisters-in-law Russell and Margaret Collins, J.D. and Jackie Dyches and many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friend and helpmate, Arnold Stephens.

The Funeral will be Friday, October 16th at 11:00 am at Elam Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Friday, October 16th at 10:00 am at Elam Baptist Church, Millen, GA.
