Billy Joe Lane, 60, passed away August 12, 2023 at his residence in Sylvania.

He was born in Jenkins County, recently retired as a heavy equipment operator for Screven County Roads and Bridges after 18 years.

He was precede in death by his parents, Rufus Lee Lane and Faye Lane Boykin.

He loved his family and friends and had a heart of gold. Billy loved the "hill", the people on it and the river life. He had previously expressed his wishes to one day return to the river and his ashes be put in the river as his "dad had done".

We will honor his wishes on Saturday, August 26th at 10 am at his brother Tommy's cabin on Highway 17 South a sign will be posted. Brother Chris Dorrity from Branch Church will officiate.

Survivors include his daughter, Kirsten McKenzie (Ray); son, Landon Lane; step-daughter, Kacie King; grandchildren, Desiny Lane, Nicolai Jeselnik, Jeramiah Jeselnik, Lil Ray McKenzie and Gabrial McKenzie; a sister, Janice Powell; brothers, Ricky Lane (Sandy) and Tommy Lane (Tammy) and multiple nieces and nephews.
