Mrs. Betty Hall Black, age 93, died Monday, January 26, 2026 at her home in the Birdsville community of Jenkins County, Ga.
She was born June 10, 1932 in Emanuel County, a daughter of Allen David and Maggie Kirkland Hall. She graduated from Emanuel County Institute.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Virgil Howard Black; two brothers Bo and Bennett Hall; four sisters, Wynelle Chapman, Virginia Willis, Mary Scott and Mae Kelly; and grandson, Howard Hillhouse Stone.
Betty loved flowers and growing vegetables and received many awards for her roses and flower arrangements. Her caramel cake was legendary, as were her lacy cornbread and cinnamon rolls. She was a Master Gardener, a former member of the Millen Garden Club and the Augusta Rose Society. She was a member of Fairhaven Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Virgil Howard Black, Jr. of Millen; daughters, Margaret Black Martin (Preston) of St. Simons Island, GA and Nancy Black Stone (Charlie) of Whitefish, MT; sister, Martha Beasley of Swainsboro, GA; grandchildren, Courtney Stone, Sanford Stone, Brooke Martin, Justin Wilson, Zachary Wilson and Brock Thomas; great grandchildren, Maggie Fullerton, Howard Fullerton, John Stone, Will Stone, Maura Martin, Mackenzie Yoder, John Michael, Noah and Grayson Wilson.
The family extends its gratitude to Bev and Joey Boulineau, Kim and Brittney of Pruitt Hospice and to her in home caregivers.
Memorial gifts may be made to Fairhaven Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1096, Millen, GA 30442.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Johnson, Zachary Wilson, Justin Wilson, Mark Black, Anthony Black, Tommy Mack, Jerry Hall and Weston Wilkes.
Visitation will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Fairhaven Methodist Church followed by a funeral service at 2 pm with the Reverend Richard Turner officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
